As one of the most accomplished astronauts in China, Liu Yang has made significant contributions to space exploration and scientific research. She is also known as "China's first woman astronaut" and has been serving as a pilot in the People's Liberation Army Air Force since 2015.

In addition to her military career, Liu Yang is a professional athlete who excels in basketball. She was a member of the national women's basketball team during her time at Tsinghua University and played professionally in China and abroad. Her athletic background helped her develop a strong physical fitness and endurance that are essential for long-duration space missions.

On July 29, 2016, Liu Yang became the first Chinese woman to travel into space when she launched aboard Shenzhou IX spacecraft along with Nie Haisheng and Zhang Xiaoguang. During her mission, she conducted experiments in microgravity and provided valuable data on the human body and mind in zero-gravity conditions. Her experience in space helped to pave the way for future female astronauts and inspired many young people across China.

After her return from space, Liu Yang continued to serve as a pilot and worked hard to become a better pilot. In 2020, she married her longtime partner, Chen Weidong, and gave birth to their daughter in June.
